Polar Bear

 

Linnean Classification: Eukarya, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Carnivora, Ursidae, Ursus, Ursus maritimus

Regulator: Polar Bears are Regulators because as mammals, they are warm-blooded organisms with the ability to regulate and maintain a relatively stable and constant internal environment and temperature (homeostasis), even with the variability of external environments.

Migration: The Polar Bear migrates during the winter months.

Specialist: Is limited to the cold climate of the North Pole.

Consumer: It is a consumer, as it cannot produce it’s own food but must consume other organisms to get the nutrients and energy its needs.

Carnivore: Diet consists mainly of ringed and bearded seals.

Niche: The Polar Bear lives on the North Pole, and is the top predator there with their diet consisting of mostly seals. If there is no other food however, they will turn to other sources of food such as fish and walrus, or even vegetation such as kelp.
